BREAKING NEWS!

Travis Roy Coming to Rutland

Greetings,

On behalf of the Travis Roy Foundation, we would like to cordially invite you to a "Dinner with Travis Roy at Southside Steakhouse on June 1st at 6PM. This event will be an opportunity for people in the local community to dine with Travis Roy and hear his incredible story.

Travis was an NCAA Division I hockey player for Boston University when he tragically fractured his 3rd and 4th cervical vertebrae just 11 seconds into his first collegiate shift. While the injury has left Travis paralyzed, he has gone on to create the successful Travis Roy Foundation, which fundraises for spinal cord research and individual grants for people living with paralysis.

Since its inception in 1997, the foundation has raised over $8 million, and the annual Travis Roy Wiffle Ball tournament held each in Jericho, Vermont has become the organization's largest fundraiser. Over 32 teams gather each summer for a weekend of wiffle ball fun for a great cause, an event that has raised over $2.5 million for the foundation.

Two Rutland-area teams have participated in the tournament for over 10 years, and this year we've teamed up to give our loyal supporters a chance to meet Travis and hear his story in person.

    New Programs and Changes

We have a couple of new programs for the upcoming year. First is the house mites program. House mites will practice twice a week with the mites and play home house games on Saturday.

We are also offering a six-week house mite program that will run between the end of fall soccer and the start of basketball. This program will be registered through the Rutland Recreation Department. Dates and more information will follow.

In addition there is a change to the travel mites program. Travel mites will practice twice a week, will play home house games on Saturday and will play travel games on Sunday. The travel mites will be on the road roughly every other week while playing at home the other Sundays.

If at any time a player wishes to upgrade from the six-week to house or travel, or from house to travel, only pay the difference.
