Here's What's Happening

Hello All Rutland Jr. Spartan Families

As summer is quickly buzzing by, your RAHA Board of Directors, along with all of our subcommittees, are hard at work planning for an exciting new season of ice hockey. This letter is an opportunity to fill you in on some of our plans for the upcoming season, and events planned for the preseason.

First and foremost, you should be aware that there are a lot of new faces on the Board of Directors. You may see the members on the website at www.rahavt.org. Also, some members of our board have stepped down after many years of service, notably Ron Slusarcyk. Ron has served as our treasurer for the past six years. George Carone has also stepped down from the board after three years, serving most recently as our vice president. Ron and George both deserve a deep debt of gratitude for their service to this program.

Our program does not operate without volunteers like Ron and George, and we all need to dedicate volunteer hours to make the RAHA program the best youth hockey program in the state. This year we will ask all RAHA families to volunteer more time than in years past, and our hope is to build a better RAHA community, and through that a great hockey program.

We will continue with two in-person registration nights; September 7th and 28th from 5 to 8 p.m. The in-person registration will be at Spartan Arena in the lobby. All registration forms will be available on the website so that you can come prepared with your forms filled out prior to arrival. Forms will also be available the night of registration. Online registration will also be available at rahavt.org. REMEMBER: You must register with USA Hockey first and bring your receipt to RAHA registration

The Annual Meeting will take place at our Annual Picnic on September 25th at Spartan Arena. The picnic has been a great event over the last few years and it continues to grow in popularity. It is now considered our kickoff event for the season. Registration for the season will also be available during the picnic and we will once again raffle off a free year of hockey. You will find additional details of the picnic on our website within the next few days.

New this year will be our first-ever Hockey Equipment Swap and Sale. This will also take place at Spartan Arena, and the date is set for September 16 and 17. This is an opportunity for all RAHA families to sell their outgrown equipment that has been piling up in the garage or basement. It will also offer all families an opportunity to get some slightly used equipment at a reasonable price, and a percentage of all sales will go to the RAHA Scholarship Fund. Equipment can be dropped off at the arena on Tuesday the 13th and Thursday the 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. More information will be readily available in upcoming weeks. Please check the website rahavt.org.

Our website last year was all new, with many new features. Most notable was the online registration feature, along with the online clothing order page, a complete calendar of events, and many more great features. Our website took a large leap forward last season. When you visit the website for the first time, I would encourage you to register as a member on the site.

There is a login in the upper left; simply follow the prompts. Once the season begins, this will allow your child’s coach and/or the parent coordinator to communicate directly with team members, and post private messages visible only by team members.

I have been asked several times over the past few weeks about evaluations. Evaluations will continue in the same format as last season. The on-ice evaluations will be run solely by the Castleton men’s hockey team and staff. The dates and times for evaluations are as follows: Squirts, September 26, 27, 28, & 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Bantams, October 3, 4, 5, & 6 from 7 to 8 p.m.; and Peewees, October 10, 11, 12 & 13 from 6 to 7 p.m. We will also have a Preseason Camp for the 12U and 14U teams run by the Castleton women’s team and staff, held on October 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Our regular practice season will begin at Spartan Arena starting on the 17th of October and we will move to Giorgetti Arena for practices starting November 1st. Please check the website rahavt.org for the practice schedule.

I am very excited about this upcoming hockey season and I look forward to seeing you all at the rink.

Sincerely,

Mike Hickey

RAHA President
